Camping in Waimea Canyon

Currently, you cannot camp in Waimea Canyon State Park.

But adjoining Koke’e State Park offers both a campground and cabins, if you wish to overnight in the Waimea Canyon area.

Campers, camper vans, and trailers are not allowed.

Camping near Waimea Canyon in Koke’e State Park

Camping at Koke’e State Park / Waimea Canyon is by permit only.

Nine tent camping sites are offered in the campground located in the center of Koke’e State Park near the complex of buildings. This campground can be accessed in a 2-wheel drive.

Flush toilets, showers, picnic tables, and potable water are available to campers. There is a payphone.

All but one of the campsites accommodates a maximum of 6 occupants, with one allowing 10 persons. You can reserve a campsite for a maximum of 5 nights.

Be prepared for wet conditions at Koke’e any time of the year.

Camping permits for Koke’e State Park (and the Waimea Canyon) are available 90 days in advance.

These campsites near Waimea Canyon are very popular and usually booked weeks in advance, so book yours as soon as you know your dates.

You can check into your campsite at 3 p.m. on the first day of your reservation, and you must leave by noon on the day of your departure.

Non-residents of Hawaii pay 30.00 per campsite per night, and residents pay $20.00 per campsite per night.

Lodging near Waimea Canyon in Koke’e State Park

The Lodge at Koke’e State Park offers cabins, dormitories, or newer units with separate bedrooms.

Each lodging unit sleeps six guests, and come with cooking utensils, bedding, and linens. There is a restaurant and bar at The Lodge at Koke’e State Park.

There is no TV or wifi or cell reception at the cabins, and a two-night minimum is enforced unless the calendar has an opening for one night.
