Why Visit the Red Dirt Waterfall?

You’ve likely already admired the striking color of Kauai’s red dirt, if you’ve stopped by some of the Waimea Canyon lookouts or if you have taken a helicopter tour over Kauai.

Kauai’s volcanic soil is formed from basalt that’s rich in iron oxide, which gives it the bright reddish hue.

The red dirt is one of the reasons why landmarks like Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali Cliffs look so gorgeous.

And it is this gorgeous red dirt that makes this little cascade on Kauai’s west side so unique.

The little waterfall, between 4 and 5 feet tall, cuts a swathe through the wall of red and drops into a cute little pool below.

In fact, you’ll see a few small cascades and pools above the main waterfall if you explore the area a bit.
